Today, we are covering the critically endangered hummingbird known as the Chilean Woodstar (Eulidia yarrellii). This hummingbird species is known only to breed in extreme areas of northern Chile. Rapid population declines are ongoing because of habitat destruction, in combination with increased pesticide use and competition with other hummingbird species. It has been speculated that this species could face extinction within two decades.
