Angd- That's great news! All of it. You don't have the big C, you have been recognized by (your peers?) many for your hard work, and your son is doing well. *So* happy for you.
Upwardspiral- Young people's group at AA sounds like a very good idea. I haven't done AA myself, but have nothing but good feelings for it. Take what you want and leave the rest, as they say.
About AA: I was recently reading a blog on some news site. A woman was writing about how she and her partner had recently moved from the east to west coast. They were having a hard time meeting potential friends. She described looking outside and seeing a group of AAers having brunch at a Mexican place across the street. She thought wistfully "If only we were alcoholics..." So yeah, "Sober is the new black."
Off to yoga soon. I need a lot of practice in living in the moment.
