Yeah, Mags, the new health care laws here in the US are VERY complicated. I'm probably what you would describe as "lower middle class". I don't make enough to live the high life, but make too much to qualify for any government assistance. If you don't have a certain type of coverage (or no coverage at all), then you're subject to paying a penalty from the IRS. As I understand it, that penalty will be more than doubling between 2015-16. So basically, you'll pay either way. I may just have to move to another country
