I can only control what I do. If I'm depositing and another party isn't, I am in no way obligated to continue in a one-sided relationship.
The purpose is to put some focus on what I do and how it reflects MY estimation of them and the relationship, not concern myself with what others do not do. You make the deposit because you hold another in high regard, not because you expect a return.
