I got a DUI back when I was teaching and it didn't affect my job, but I had already been teaching for a while. Nobody even talked to me about. Now, when I moved to California to continue teaching, I put down a "no" when on application when it asked if I have ever been convicted of a crime. Well, after a year of teaching, the DOE caught it and turned into a big deal. Had to fly to Sacramento to talk to a room full of people. When told them I had been through treatment and was attending AA they let it go and I taught for another year. Now I'm living in Florida and substitute teaching. They ran a background check and it never came up. No problem. If it ever does come, just let them know what you are to deal with the problem, AA, SR and anything else your doing, and you'll be fine.
