To be honest, there is no reason why step one should take long, and you'll probably ready to start working on Step 2 as soon as you've been through the Step 1 stuff with your sponsor and they have talked through Step 2 with you. My sponsor gave me a list of reflective questions to work through in my own way, then she came over and drank buckets of tea while we went through them together. It was a great was to get to know her better as well. I suppose different sponsors have different ways though.
