MM, I saw your gigantic doors from NORAD. I've been inside doors like that, too.

For our 25th anniversary, we went to visit the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia. It is a very elegant resort from the 1800s where socialites and presidents used to spend their summers.

The reason we were interested, though, is because there is a huge fallout shelter underneath that was built during the Cold War for the President and Congress to live in case of nuclear attack.

The doors were really cool. Though we didn't get to see much of the inside because the facility has been bought by a railroad company and is now used mainly for data storage, what we did see was cool. We saw living quarters, the kitchen and dining hall, the infirmary, and a couple of other things.

To get there, we had to catch a van from the resort and wait at the hidden entrance until somebody activated the blast doors.

That was five years ago.

I know a couple who went last month--and now visitors just walk in through a connecting hallway--no more waiting for the blast doors to open. Plus, to keep the enormous resort profitable, they've installed a casino in an unused wing that used to be a nightclub.
