Yeah, I mentioned Spiral/Engrenages in a previous post. Just finished Series 5.
For a female author, you might try the book I also mentioned in a previous post,
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. After a couple of chapters -- probably sooner -- it was hard to put down. One of the characters is a woman who struggles with alcohol.
