Alcoholic Mum
Hi I'm new to this site and thought I'd share my story!
My mum has been a "secret" drinker for years and finally admitted she needed help at the beginning of the year after a family intervention. Things were going well at first but now has taken a turn for the worst and using her newly diagnosed "alcoholism" as an excuse to drink even more!
I decided to seek help myself as the anger, guilt, frustration and pain was taking its toll! I'm now coming to terms with it all and accepting that I can't change my mum nor can I force her to want to change, she has to want to do it! Things are slowly getting easier for me everyday, although my frustration is now directed at my dad who is enabling my mum which he can't see!! :0( how do I convince him that his kindness is making her worse and driving me nuts??
