I filled out an advanced directive form today
And got a surprisingly violent response from my wife
I think she's more disturbed than I
About the thought of a sudden end to my life
Chances are things will go as planned and I'll be fine
But you never know so I wanted it in black and white
That a persistant vegetative state is no way to live
And to be powerless to change that just doesn't seem right
And then she didn't want to be my agent
She doesn't want it to be her call
She said to leave it up to my sister
With her self-proclaimed cold heart and all
These are things uncomfortable to discuss
But we all live just long enough to die
And we need to be prepared to grieve
And concede that every hello leads to a goodbye
