whoever said you can't teach an old dog new tricks
ain't spent much time with old dogs;
as long as we can envision an impending treat
we can cut through habits' fogs
and treats there are plenty if we count our blessings:
health, clarity, energy, the joy of a sunrise,
days free of nausea, money in the pocket,
a sense of accomplishment, feeling somewhat wise
this old dog thought treats came in a glass or can,
but sobriety is making me more like a puppy again
