Sounds like you have many wheels turning to support both your hubby and you. I'm so glad that you are firm with your boundaries - so important. The important thing is that you do what you need to so that you are at peace with the outcome. If in your heart you need to give him this opportunity than bless you. Draw your line and hopefully you won't need to enforce it. Take care of you - you can only help him so much and then he has to step up and do his work.
