I also would talk to the lawyer first, and do whatever you need to do to keep yourself safe from harm. Don't be afraid to call 911 - whether it's for threats of suicide, threats of violence, or both! Always better safe than sorry when the situation gets volatile.
Instead of trying to get him to move, is it possible for you to just move out? Tell the landlord you're not on the lease anymore and move into a new apartment? That way you don't have to worry about getting him out, he won't be your problem anymore. What a relief that will be.
