You can refer your friends to AlAnon or other resources like them. There is a good family and friends forum here too. Regarding their son, unfortunately he will have to decide to quit for himself. They can advise him of options on where to get help if he wants it and share with him that they have concern of course - and offer support. But unfortunately no one but him can decide to quit.
