Well I'm really really old! Just turned 86 the other day. And I'll just say one thing. I deserve to be sober. Everybody deserves to be sober! Why? Because that's who a person really is. The real me. It's like saying "I don't deserve to be the real me". Sounds like there may have been a "humility contest" going on. I've heard a few of those. One time I heard a person say, "I don't deserve to have a year of sobriety! So each time I reach 364 days I take a drink. Just so I won't be entitled to get a one year chip! Just so I have to go back to day one and go in the rooms and tell them how I don't deserve stuff!"
Boo! Hoo! Poor Me! That doesn't sound like recovery! That sounds more like theatre! Why not ring down the curtain, get off the stage and get on with it. I'm not talking to you, Acqua! I'm talking to the "old" geezer! I heard another old timer with twenty or so years of professed sobriety say, "I'm a newcomer, just like you!" Another bit of humility drama.
