Way to stay the course.

I was at about nine months sober, feeling good in my recovery. My wife and I were driving somewhere and she tells me she is going to drive up to Phily to see her son for the weekend.

My very first thought, seconds after I heard this, was I can drink that weekend. I felt like a 12 year old, sneaking around where I shouldn't sneak. I was a little worried that the thought would take root and I'd drink.

Came here, was assured I didn't have to act on my thoughts, to focus on my recovery, and sure enough when that weekend came, it wasn't even an issue.

It's amazing how quick our minds can return to stinking thinking given an opening.
