If you're worried simply about socialising, the only way to learn how to socialise sober is to do it I think.
You might be surprised and it may be no trouble at all.
Have a contingency/escape plan tho - I know you're a designated driver but thats no need to stay there all night if you feel uncomfortable.
Slip your passengers a few bucks for a cab if needs be.
