That's the alcoholism. That is how it whispers sweet nothings in your ear. Like it says in the big book: "We are unable, at times, to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago. We are without defense against the first drink."
Of course we don't want to remember the reality of our drinking, only the fantasy and the "good ol' days".
