I have a sponsor. He and I are REALLY different, and he's not perfect. And I'm working my program at a snail's pace. But I know he keeps an eye on me, and I can call him in the middle of the night if I need to, although I never have. Every time he sees me, he says "call me" and sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.
He gives me writing assignments, but lets me progress at my own pace. And I feel accountable to put pen to paper, which everyone in the program has told me is really important to recovery. I just know that I would never do it at all if I didn't have someone checking on me and bugging me about it.
