IMO The rejection will come if you don't address this thing honestly and openly. If you tell him your intention is to do everything you can to address the problem and to eventually make right all of the harm you have done, your chances are excellent. Will he be upset? Perhaps. But if he sees you going to meetings every day it will not take long for that to change.
