Total, complete ownership of our choices—I like that a lot. It's empowering. When I first quit drinking, I leaned heavily on the "poison" concept, even took it a step further and vilified alcohol (though only as it related to me; I never had objections to it being available for others). Now I view alcohol the same way I view the lamppost at the end of my block. I know it's there; if I crash into it, I can't really blame the lamppost.
