Ken,

You need to realize that regardless of whether or not they refer to them as such, all of your recovery friends also have a Beast (addictive desire) and a corresponding Addictive Voice which colors their thinking. Thanks to their own AV, some of them don't believe in themselves, and don't know if they will drink/use tomorrow. Consequently, they cannot and will not ever believe in you, either.

You live in a society which largely does not believe in your ability to self-correct and self-recover. If you want to use AVRT as your method of recovery, you will need to learn to recognize the Addictive Voice not only in your own thinking, but also in the thinking of others who may project their own insecurities onto you. If you want to announce your Big Plan, be prepared to face the doubters at the gate.

I have made a couple Big Plans myself.
  1. I will never drink or use again, and I will never change my mind.

  2. I will never ingest nicotine again, and I will never change my mind.

I'm considering making a third:
I will never pay attention to what those who don't know if they will drink/use tomorrow have to say about addiction recovery, and I will never change my mind.
