Removing alcohol from your life, is like removing a film from the windows of your home. At first you find the reality of life a bit bright and overwhelming, so you stay inside for awhile till you adjust.

Then One day you work your way to looking out some windows. Then opening some doors. You allow fresh air in so you are not just soley exposed to your old stale ways of being and doing.

Eventually you realize that not only can you see out, but that if you let people closer, they can see you too. So you start setting boundaries with who can come close and who can't.

One day, someone says to you that they will put the film back on the windows for you so you can go back to how it was. Even though you're scared of being seen and connecting with the world outside the windows. You say, no. Don't put it back.

You can't put the Genie back in the bottle. Now you know what you've been missing. With the film back on, you would always know that you deliberately shut out the wonders of the world. And with that knowledge, you couldn't be happy.
