Well, I can only speak from my experience, but for me it was all about fear of change. I knew that he wasn't going to change, but I still kept 'hoping' he would. Why? Because that would be so much easier than making changes myself. Kinda like hoping you win the lottery because then you wouldn't have to face the tough financial decisions we all have to face.
