duqld717, right on! I could see myself back in the day, "feeling bad" and offering to pay half or something. . . and then, later feeling crappy about it!
I think it's great that you let him know that he asked you out and he should pay for the dinner *and* tip! (Although I totally agree with you, I also think it was okay that he asked if you would pay for the tip. However, when you stated that you felt he should because he asked you out, I think he should've been totally fine with that.) These are "little things" but they are important.
