I remember using those sleep aids to no avail.
My favorite poison was alcohol, in industrial quantities
Even lesser amounts, ingested on a daily basis, can make your body go Whoa! when you stop. Try some relaxation stuff, a hot bath, herbal tea, a long walk...
Sleep does return in time.
