Normal and welcome respite
My DD gave me a road trip for my birthday last year, which we are in the middle of right now. We've had a fun and drama-free meander to our destination in CT, just talking and doing whatever we feel like doing.
On the one hand I have to consciously accept that I am entitled to a good time, and shut out any concerns about AH at home, sending me text messages about how much he misses me. I'm doing a good job with ignoring all that, I think. I have to stop thinking that people (i.e. AH) are going to shrivel up without me, and just enjoy myself.
On the other hand, it's really great to just sit back and not have to accommodate drunkenness. Not have to be satisfied with doing what I want to do only between 8am and 11am, after which I'm expected to let the drinking games begin.
It's a nice vacation.
