Finishing on good terms means acceptance. Do not force him to do anything as a condition of that acceptance. He has grown numb to the threats anyways so they only hurt you when he fails yet again. Accept who he is and who he wants to be. This will make it easier for you to do what you know in your heart is the right decision for you and your son.
