Re. your chat problems - it could be a problem with the Java setup on your machine though it's a guess. You could try going here
java.com: Java + You and downloading a new copy to see if that helps; you might also trying uninstalling the previous version (see
How do I uninstall Java on my Windows computer ?) and then installing a new copy.
