Unhappy Cried my eyes out at the vet this morning

when I had to have my old sick cat put down. I know it was the last act of kindness I could do for him but still feel sh!tty ten different ways about it. I gave him a good life but animals just don't live long enough.

Only two good things came from this: I gave him a good life and a peaceful death, and I didn't want to drink over it... which is a big thing for me. This kind of depressing event used to send me to the bottle but not anymore.

This is for anyone who's ever loved and lost an animal friend:

SEPARATE LIFETIMES

We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our
own, live within a fragile circle;
easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps,
we would still live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only
certain immortality, never fully
understanding the neccesary plan....
