I too grew up with an alcoholic father - first my natural father and then my step- father.
I too hated them when they were drinking and hated my natural father for a much longer time after he stopped drinking.
What I had to remember was that he did the best he could with what he had. He did not drink to make my life miserable. He is an alcoholic. He is a work in progress and so am I!
Keep going to Al-Anon meetings and don't worry about being the youngest one there. You're Experience, Strengh, and Hope is welcome and needed by the other people around the table.
