'Secular recovery' to me is using common sense, a bit of reality checking, surrounding myself with sober folks, engaging in sober fun, and avoiding certain people/places. SMART offers useful tools for recovery as well.
'God' and a HP concept can be helpful for most in recovery, but for me it is largely irrelevant to my mental and physical recovery from alcohol.
I consider myself a very spiritual person (a belief in universal connectedness and shared experience)...but I don't see that (or a belief in the traditional 'god') as being necessarily intertwined with living a sober lifestyle.
But by all means, if you find that your faith in an HP or god helps you be sober, then use it to your advantage!
