Four Questions About my Addiction

1.) What do I enjoy about my addiction…what does it do for me?

- I like getting buzzed/drunk…it feels good
- When I’m messed up, I feel happy
- When I’m messed up, my problems do not bother me
- When I’m messed up, I can think about whatever I want and not get upset
- I like the way alcohol tastes
- Drinking guaranteed a hard sleep for a few hours in a row
- Drinking calmed me down
- Drinking was a fun escape. When I would play video games I’d become totally immersed
- Anytime I was upset, booze was the only thing I could depend on to pull me out of it

2.) What do I hate about my addiction…what does it do to me?

- Upset stomach/intestines nearly all the time
- Yellow bowel movements consistently
- Insomnia. I would only get a few hours of sleep a day
- I never had time to do anything else…no art…never found a better job
- Didn’t care about doing anything else
- At least six years of my life is gone to drinking
- I’m living at home with my parents because I am not responsible enough for myself due to my history of drinking
- Drinking made my depression worse
- I was dependant upon alcohol to get through every day
- The money I spent on alcohol could have been used to buy a new car
- The extra calories never helped
- Heartburn/acid reflux very often
- Worsening heart palpitations
- Social isolation

3.) What do I like and what do I think I will like about giving up my addiction?

- I have a clear mind
- I’m getting more sleep
- I have the opportunity to do my art again
- I feel like I have much more time in the day
- I have the opportunity to get my depression treated now
- No extra calories from alcohol
- My bowel movements/intestinal activity has improved
- I have the knowledge that I’m giving my brain, esophagus, heart, pancreas, liver and kidneys a break
- I am giving up a negative dependency
- I go out on walks and take photos
- I have a chance to be more social
- I have the opportunity to make my dreams come true instead of just thinking about it

4.) What don’t you like about giving up your addiction?

- No more “instant bliss” or buzz
- I cannot drink socially
- Since I’m not drinking I no longer enjoy the taste
- I cannot use alcohol to “escape”
