I have heard it repeated here and elsewhere, "Hands off the addict"
In our case, my son might not be here today if I had not intervened. "We ought not do for them what they can do for themselves." However, sometimes our loved ones get to such a dark place, they lose the will to get out of it and need guidance. I am fortunate that my son eventually became willing and that I worked the al-anon program until he did and continue to.
The support I get here helped me through some difficult times.
