The treatment center I went to used this philosophy as the base of their program, believe it or not! I actually sought it out for the fact that it was not 12-Step based. I really identified with it, especially having been a psychology student. This,

In practice, the most important need is love and belonging, as closeness and connectedness with the people we care about is a requisite for satisfying all of the needs.
I believe to be true and is the reason why I come to SR and keep giving AA a try despite my past negative experiences.
