How to "work" the steps? I've been to two Al-Anon meetings so far and I find them very helpful. But I don't really understand what it means to "work" the steps. Do I just read about them in a specific book and consider them carefully? How do I know when I'm ready to move from one step to the next? |
Frec, I am surprised more AA folks haven't offered help. You can Google it, but hopefully my reply will pull this off page 2. Thanks. |
You need a sponsor. Find someone at the meetings that seems to have what you want, and ask them to sponsor you. Your sponsor will guide you through the steps. https://www.ocalanon.org/12-steps-traditions/ |
Okay, I'll do that. Thanks. |
The first 3 steps I took while in a 28 day rehab when I entered recovery in Aug. 1990. From there along with my sponsor, I learned by attending many step studies, Big Book, Speaker, discussion, conventions, all listening, learning, absorbing and applying this important knowledge to my everyday life to achieve the promises as written for us in the BB of AA. Grab a hold of someones coattail tightly, that is folks you see in them what you want in recovery life and follow them. Ask questions and never let go of all your recovery lifelines. For over 28 yrs sober, I continue to live the steps incorporating them in my everyday life to help me remain sober and live a healthy, happy, honest way of life. |
to work the steps means to live them,to put them into action in our lives when I do that,I get better |
