Engaging one's own reason to consciously determine their understanding, regardless of what text, program, religion, etc. they use to find it, is all about awareness and understanding, and that is the ideal.

The "blind" that distorts is in adherence to beliefs. Beliefs are rigid, fixed, exclusive. And when beliefs are used as fundamental truths, that's dangerously unstable ground on which to walk.
