I was sober for 4 years and relapsed after a horrific rape and kidnapping. I let that be my excuse to drink again for almost 2 years and hated myself for that. I've gone back to AA and taken a white chip 3 times and I can't seem to make it. The first time I got sober, I was able to make it for so long without pain. Can anyone give me some advice on how to start over. I know the obvious solution is AA but due to my work schedule and being a single mom, I do not have the free time. Thanks for listening!

sgreaves - First let me welcome you to the forum, this is a great place for friendship and support. I am so sorry for the ordeal that you went through, you are alive and that is great! you said that you have gone back to AA again, but you did not mention if you got a sponsor or worked the steps at all? Also, I am no expert, but I think that with what you have been through you may want to look into professional help also. I can only share my experience with you and my experience has been with a 12 step program. You said you were sober for 4 years before, how did you do it then? Let's talk about that and start there. Again, welcome and I hope to hear more from you.

Hi Pauline, When I got sober before, I went to a rehab in south Florida. After 2 days I was happier than I had ever been in my life. I have felt that joy recently when I have remained sober for days. I just don't understand why I can remain sober for a period of time, feel happy, and yet return to alcohol. Each time I relapse, the pain is more intense along with the severe withdrawal symptoms.
