Glad you came back, but now you start over.
I am fairly new at this too, and this is how I believe. I believe fighting alcoholism with your own strength is like going to a gun fight with a knife. It just can't win.

Alcoholism is a cunning baffling disease. It is not going to give up on you...and will continue to entice you until you bring the correct tools to fight.

I could not even BEGIN to think that I could have quit without changing some of the powerful messages in my head.

I used to hear. You are a loser. You are destined to drink. You won't have any fun if you don't drink. Your friends won't like you.

Now I hear - Great job, one day at a time, I am proud, you have grown.

What do I choose today?
I choose sobriety over EVERYTHING.

I am proud of you for having the courage to come back! It really takes guts, which you obviously have. This is heartening stuff!

I tried many, many times to do stay sober on my own. Each time I felt great, but had no idea what to do with myself when I had the urge to drink! Then my head would say things like "You are a slave" and that was to haunt me for years.

Anyway, going to AA and listening to other alcoholics tell of how they overcame this sense of slavery really helped me realise that it was possible. The realisation that I wasn't alone gave me great relief. Like Pauline here, I am wondering if you have thought about going to a meeting yet?

I hope you keep posting to let us know how you are doing.

Well your not alone that's for sure. That's why I'm here and glad that you are too. I can relate to your difficulty....some say that our obsession will pass........I know people in the program that it has....I want that for myself too!!! (very much!!)

Glad to see that you're here too, DEE. We'll all try to make it together...one day at a time.

Today is new and its all (really!) all of us have.
We also have each other to share with with out being judged.
