| Court tomorrow
Well, tomorrow's the big day. My first DUI blew .301 which is pretty impressive and I gather my second was as well. I've been in outpatient treatment and AA ever since, and that was in August, so I dunno. I haven't been appointed a public defender or anything, so I don't know what's going to happen. Ask 3 people get 5 answers. The best I can gather is that I'm lucky I don't live in New York. Wouldn't you know it... this morning I got a huge lump on my privates and can't hardly sit down. Probably a cyst or something. I'm praying and stringing beads like mad to keep myself busy, but it's about time for bed. Already took my hot bath, but wanted to tell my sponsor to not come tomorrow --it's hugely out of her way and she has another commitment at 9:00 anyway so I think it would just be a waste of her time. We'll see I guess, it's not in my hands anymore. Kelly

((((Kelly)))) Pray for god's will and acceptance, my friend. What's done is done and what will be will be. You are doing the right things by staying sober and working a program of recovery. We do get through the wreckage, one step, one day at a time. This too shall pass. It's not up to you to decide whether or not your sponsor will be inconvenienced by going with you tomorrow. That's for her know. It sounds like you could use the support, so please let her come. You don't have to do this alone. Bring the serenity prayer with you tomorrow, k? Hugs, phinny

Thanks phinny. It's just that court starts at 8:30, and she has to be elsewhere by 9:00, and unless it's down the hall in the courthouse, it just can't happen. They fart around until quarter to 9, then take everyone who has a private attorney first, so I won't even be seen until 9:30 or 10 if I'm lucky. My husband will be with me, and I'm very grateful for that. I can't find my pocket-sized BB anywhere, or I'd have it in my back pocket. Chances are it will miraculously turn up tomorrow morning when I need it most. Serenity prayer is in my head. My "Meditations for Women who do too Much" for tomorrow says "Our illusion of control is more cunning than a cat, and it has more than nine lives." How apt is that? Kelly

Hi Kelly, I'll be sending you positive thoughts this morning. I am so glad your husband is with you to give you support. The 'cyst' thing - you know it's possible that it's due to stress. This is a very stressful time for you and it's surprising what your body will do. So, just try to relax and stay as positive as you can. Let us know how it goes!

Well, I don't know. When they gave me my offer... "the usual" plus 55 days in jail I nearly seizured and said NO I didn't accept the offer and needed to talk to someone. No matter how many people tell me I'm not going to spend any jail time, I still freaked out. So, I go back in two weeks. And evidently I make too much money for a public defender. I certainly can't afford an attorney. What freaked me out most is that I apparently don't have any way of telling them what I've been doing to improve myself, etc., etc., unless I have an attorney or someone to “present my case”. I don't know if I should start a letter writing campaign to the judge and the district attorney or what. Any ideas? California has this thing called Prop 36 for drug offenders. I don't know how that can apply to me. I don't need their money unless they'll pay for the attorney. But maybe I can get their protection. If I go to jail for 55 days, I'm not going to be getting paid for that time (which will put me two months behind on my mortgage), and likely my husband may lose his job because he won't be able to do his 3-day runs to Oregon each week. Yep, I've created one huge mess. And don't you love getting ready for court? You don't want to look like you just stepped out of the barrio... you don't want to look like a crack-ho looking for a fix, but you don't want to look like a socialite either. I always wonder if some of the women think their belly button ring will impress the judge. Larry said the woman on the other side of him smelled like a gallon of gin. I’m going to try to find an attorney. At least call all of the ones that offer free consultations. Thanks! Kelly

Hi Kelly, Jeez, what a mess. Do try to find a lawyer who will let you pay on a schedule. Your life is too important to mess up now. Keep posting and let us know what happens. "one day at a time" I will be thinking about you. Carol |

Sending you best wishes and a warm hug for comfort and support. I hope beyond all measure you can find someone who will represent you. Judges do not want to destroy families and with the work you have done, something ought to be able to be worked out. Stay in touch, we are all pulling for you. Live
