| Everyone's looking for work?
I see so many women, primarily, looking for work in these forums, and I just wanted to share something that I have found up here in Canada, but it's EVERYWHERE. I am a recruiter/scheduler for a marketing firm, and I got this job by doing merchandising full-time for many companies. I was an independent contractor, meaning, that I had the right to turn down work, or work for more than one firm at a time, and I was responsible for my own taxation. I knew nothing when I started, and had no money, and ALL of these companies should not charge a fee for you to start up - if they do, they're not on the up-and-up! All you need to do is start signing up online with companies looking for people with skills in retail, which most women have, and even if you don't, it's quite easily learned. Learn to read a planogram, set up displays, show up each and every time you agree to do some work, and you'll be turning down job offers before you know it. There are no mandated education requirements, training is available for free online, and there are literally 100's of company websites that you can sign up with. This industry works quite well for women, as you make your own hours, within reason, and when your kids are sick, or you have some drama going on, there are ways to work around that kind of schedule, as long as it gets done within certain parameters. You're your own boss, and you DON'T punch a clock! There is work available in urban, rural, AND remote areas, and some merchandisers that live in far away places make even more money, as they're even more in demand! The only things you need to get started are a computer with internet, which you have if you're reading this, and the will and ethics to get out there and do some of the pain-in-the-butt jobs you start out with, so that you can graduate to the easier ones. I went from part-time work, scrambling to pay my bills, working for someone else, to living on my own, working full-time, and having no problem with having enough money to live on! This industry empowered me, it changed my life, and I truly feel passionate about it now...it can really help you to get out of a bad situation and into something better. I'm not putting this out there for any reasons of my own, other than that I feel so strongly about the strength you can gain from working for yourself. If I had known this type of work existed 20 years ago, I definitely would have gone down a different path than the one I followed! One of the first jobs I did was a pet food aisle RESET, which involved moving heavy bags of dog food, teeny-weeny cans of cat food, into different shelves/baskets, as the pet food company had paid someone big bucks to redesign all of the grocery store pet aisles, and it was my job to change them to the new plan. But, even though that was a tough one, and a lot of hard work, I was able to get into the good graces of the person in charge of that program, and then they began giving me DVD's, socks, and lots of much easier work. Personally, I have hired women in very small towns to do this, who have no previous experience, and they have not only taken the teachings, but have RUN with them. They now work part-time or full-time doing this, and they love it. The side benefit? You often get to shop right after you work, and you get 'gifts' from the clients to take home with you. Please, if you are in any way interested, feel free to PM me, and I can perhaps give you some direction and websites to start at. I won't hold your hand, but if you are looking for a new path, or a way out, this could very well be your answer.
