Magic Creams?

Hey...I have a question. I know I've posted before on here about my horrible mood swings during PMS and I was just told about a certain kind of test they can run on your horomones to see what your individual levels are. Once they figure this out, they can develop a certain kind of cream made for you that helps balance them out. I kinda like the idea, because I'm more into the holistic approach to health and I was wondering if any of you have either heard of this and/or had it done. I know their really isn't a "magic" cure for anything, but every little bit helps IMO. I've been keeping pretty good track of my mood levels throughout the month, and it's definitely during this time that I have a noticable change in the way I feel...and it's something that's almost impossible to shake. No matter how hard I try...I always break down and end up eating a bunch of junk to try to alleviate it. It's a really good thing that I never got into the drug scene, but if I had connections...I would really fear for my life during this time. And I truly THANK GOD that I no longer have the desire to run out to the nearest liquor store. I use other "stuff" to try to numb me out, but of course I'm not treating the root cause of my troubles.
Well, anyways...I'm going to try this thing out and if anyone is interested in the results, let me know. I'll be your personal guinea pig and keep you up to date on my progress!

Take care,
Danielle

Hi Danielle
I'd be interested to find out what these hormone tests are, because I've never heard of it myself. I'm using a natural progesterone cream to help with PMS and perimenopause symptoms, but I may have to try synthetic hormones eventually because it's not working when I am symptomatic. I'm taking a bunch of herbs and have made dietary modifications also, which helps some, but yesterday I was a typical PMS monster and I'm pretty low today. Keep us posted and let us know how you make out!
Love
Rowan

Though I haven't had any of those tests I've heard of them. A friend turned me on to calcium supplements. I used to get raging, binging and very severe cramping. Since I stay on the 1200mg doses ( 600 am/ 600 pm cause the body can't absorbe more than that at time) I rarely notice when I'm pms'ing though hubby may beg to differ! *LOL*.. Seriously, I've noticed a big difference in taking the calcium to help, and even the chocolate cravings have subsided along with the massive hunger. Cream? I'd be skepticle unless it is like the "patch" products and is a slow release type of thing.. still I'd be skeptical.

Hi Danielle,
I use a botanically based balancing cream twice a day but I'm postmenopausal.
Chy They are now coming out with vitamins and meds in creams form because the skin absorbs them fast. In fact vitamins are usually destroyed by stomach acid and the best way to administer them is through the skin.

This is so interesting.

I have a friend who is menopausal and having great difficulty sleeping due to hot flashes during the night. She went to a pharmacy that does compounding. They did a saliva test on her - it's icky - it involves spitting into a bag for a period of 24 hrs). They send that to a lab to be analyzed and then create a cream based on her needs. It's called bioidentical. The funny thing is it has stopped the hot flashes during the day but not at night!

i know for me personally my diet thruout the month makes a huge difference on my period...pain & pms....claen diet = clean period for me

if you are in or close to menopause there is alot of help out there, both herbal & chemical medical......my mom had a hard time & then got on the hormonal patch

we crave chocolate because it has an essential mineral in it...can't think of the name right now, but it's in the little packets called "e'mergenC"......a friend swore by emergenC for cramps......might help balance out the body chemistry

You are so right about the diet. When I went low carb it helped me alot (well today is halloween....so I am not low carb ) but normally we are, and yes that makes a huge difference in PMS and perimenapause, it really does ladies. Healthy meat and veggies, whole grains.

Yep, diet...that nasty word! *LOL* Especially this time of year <sigh> I know that isn't a very good excuse, but when you're triple feending for chocolate and anything else that's really sweet and it's all around you....arrrrrgh!

Thanks for all your replies. My sponsor actually told me about this place that runs this test so she and I will be going to it. I don't think we have to spit in a bag for 24 hours. At least I hope not!

Yeah Paulie, I experienced the same benefits when on a low carb diet.. Infact I felt steady and ready to go. I am happy to hear about this bioidentical theory and will check into it. When in early recovery I also consumed a ton of calcium and B6. The calcium did keep me calm and I don't care what any doctor says all the women I know who take a lot of calcium swear it keeps them calmer during PMS's. I was a holy terror when I was younger with PMS... not the worse I've ever known but pretty bad. I've finally gotten through what I hope was the worse of menopause and find my moods fairly stable considering how they were when I was out there drinking/using. When I eat sugar I hot flash... candy, softdrinks and even some herbal teas will get me going!
I am going to get some of that natural (more) progesterone cream for myself the next time I go to the doctor cause I feel like I'm drying up everywhere and I've heard using it occasionally or on and off is considered safe.
