I have to quit drinking. I have progressivly gotten worse about my drinking. It seems to have snuck up on me, or maybe that is just what I tell myself. It has been 2 days without it. I have quit smoking and feel I will be able to quit drinking as well.

I have kids, a husband, am involved in the community. I have to quit for my health both physical and mental health. My mental health is deteriorating due to my drinking. I feel so much guilt and shame. I want to join your group so you and I can help each other through these times.

I feel like I can't talk to anyone around me about how I really feel or what I am going through. I live in a small town and everyone just knows everyone's business.

Another thing, my husband drinks too. He's not willing to quit yet. So I am doing this without his help really.

I know I can't be the only one in the same kind of situation.

You have found a great place for support and encouragement. I, too had a LOT of guilt and shame to deal with and it took me ages to begin to recover from that. And, many of us at SR are here because we don't to others about this disease. It's good to have a place to come where other people understand exactly what we are going through and how difficult it is.

My husband, who never had a problem with alcohol, stopped drinking when I did. Of course, it won't help that your husband is still drinking, but essentially you are doing this for yourself. Keep posting. You can do this!

Please consider going to an AA meeting. They can give you great information and advice on recovery.

i've looked at my issues with alcohol on & off for years, have quite several times & started again (never real serious before, mostly just "drying out" to get it back under control or if to see if i could stop, etc)
right now i am on day 2 & looking at a long term/possibly forever quit
i too have a variety of reasons for quiting......this is a great site, keep coming back. remember that you can be honest here about what is going on for you & don't be afraid to talk about relapseing (drinking while trying to quit), there is no shaming that i've found here just support.

Thank you!! I hate to say it since I don't really 'wish this' on anyone but I am glad that there's others like me LOL I am feeling good today. It is my 3rd, going on 4th (if I make it through the evening) day sober and I am proud of myself. I quit drinking a month ago for almost 2 weeks. I think after I hit that mark I'll throw myself a party LOL Non-alcoholic party that is. I've been reading on this site all day and realizing that the emotions, symptoms are all normal part of recovery.

We'll do it. today will be another one under the belt

a friend in recovery once told me it's like being a member of one big world wide club......& realizing that you're more normal than the "normal" people........hooray for looking at or sh*t!
