| Good morning ladies.
I am new to this forum, but hope to meet new friends in my journey. I strongly believe in the strength of women banding together. My name is Shannon, I am 37, & have chronic back pain from 2 spinal surgeries gone awry from injuries during my career of choice as a Mental Health Professional and Supervisor. I have 3 kids, ages 2, 7, and 18, one husband, 6 cats, 2 dogs, 3 birds and some fish thrown together in a 900 sqft house. I have been practicing the principles in all my affairs since May 15, 1984. My spirituality of choice is Wiccan. And yes, this does work with the 12 steps, but if anyone knew in my life, they'd burn me at the stake. I suffer from anxiety, depression, a little bit of eating disorder thrown in the mix, trying to downgrade/eliminate my pain med usage, and just recently realize I've been living with a actively using pot smoker for my whole marriage. If you look the sign Scorpio up in the dictionary, you will see my picture. Lol. I am passionate, loyal, firm, honest, and with me, still waters run deep. Those who know me have said, "God help the one who pisses you off, because there is no mercy." Lol. I don't know if I believe that, but I do believe in Karma, and sometimes Karma needs a little help. I love to write both fiction and poetry, I crochet and garden (not a green thumb, not quite black) and love to read books. I am an avid message board participant, and have many, many on line friends, some of which I've actually had the pleasure of meeting in person. I listen to Alternative music, but have an ear for all kinds of music. I have anything from Josh Groban, Ministry, Elvis, System of a Down, Echo and the Bunnymen, Lady Sings the Blues, Eva Cassidy, Nichole Nordemann, to Christina Aguilera in my cd holder. I live and die for my children and my animals. I am a healer, an empath, and I am always here to listen and give support. This is me to put a face to the name: ![]() Nice to meet you. If anyone would like to share a bit of themselves to me, I'd love to hear about your life, loves, and areas you are working to improve. Blessed be.

Hi Shannon! Welcome to SR! I like your profile & have read a few of your other posts - it's not unusual for us to be here for more than 1 reason. I'm an addict, alcoholic, with severe depression and anxiety. Oh, and I come from a family riddled with addiction and mental illness. I also beleive in the power of women banding together, and you will find a ton of that here at WIR.. I'm curious - I'm a Taurus - what does that say about me? I know I'm a more than a bit of a homebody (learned that that fits the Taurus profile 25 years ago in girl scouts), but don't know much past that.. I like to believe I am a spiritual person, but certainly not in any 'defined' way. Was raised strict Catholic - which might explain my aversion to 'god' in the traditional sense... I've been hanging around SR for a little over 3 months, and have been in active recovery for 2 months after about 10-12 years of opiate abuse. I look forward to getting to know you! Much Love: SS

Hi Shannon, Welcome to SR. and to WIR. This is a great place to add to your recovery from Whatever. Looking forward to reading your posts. BTW, Aquarius here. And yes, I usually do march to the beat of a different drummer. *lol* and he's not drumming in tune either.

I was also raised strict Roman Catholic, and lived at the Mission De Acala boarding school where I ended up on my knees in penance half of my lifetime if they weren't beating me with a ruler for my "sins" which much of the time was because I couldn't manage to gag down the "mystery meat" pate they served in the lunch line. The worst one was the "fish surprise." All the meat had an odd decaying odor, and I damn near came out of there a vegetarian. I wasn't humble enough they said. Strangely, I developed a relationship with The Holy Mother Mary there as there was a statue of her in the area of penance, and I swear many a time I could see her crying with me as I kneeled under her outstretched arms. While I have left all other general religious beliefs behind, I believe she continues to walk along with me. Quote:

Shannon Hi it is nice to meet you. I have many friends in the Wiccan faith and love to death even though I am Southern Baptist. To each their own. Life is about living and loving and I have NEVER seen them do anything even near demonic. If anything they have more repect for this plane than any other religon. I hope that you stick around. BTW my sign is Cancer. What exactly does this mean about me aside from me being a home body? Oh yeah.duh! I am married to an active addict also. His drug of choice is crack, cocaine pills, etc. I have 3 beautiful kids 1 son 3.5, 2 daughters 18 months and 3.5 months. I hope you stick around the people here are wonderful, and adding in you makes it even better Heather

Wow! You are like friggin gorgeous! My name is Tanya. I am an addict/alcoholic Leo...7 months clean and sober tomorrow. I also have an affinity for the Virgin in all her glorious forms. Being raised in a strict protestant church, I sought out any symbol of the divine feminine...although I didn't know what I was doing at the time! I also resonate closely with the sacred heart of Christ...even though I have never been Catholic. Symbolism has been a powerful force in my life...always drawing me further into the mystery. Welcome to SR!!!!

Hi Shannon, What an awsome introduction. I'm 36, married, no kids, Capricorn. Haven't identified with any organized religion, but really like nature. I feel reverence when I'm out there. Alcoholic.. 8 weeks sober. Glad you're here! Look forward to more posts from you... 10K |

Shannon. something I related to in your post, and it seems others have too. The seeking of a strong woman figure in religion. I always gravatated(sp) toward Mary Magdalen. When I was prostituting for drugs, I used to pray to her before I went out at night. I know that is why I got out of so many bad situations alive. She understood and helped me through. I don't know for sure that she was actually a prostitute (I never had any formal religious upbringing) but I do know she was ridiculed and looked down upon. With that I knew she would have empathy.

HI! Welcome! It is pretty cool reading about everyone...I have been gone for awhile. Nanomommy, I had to laugh. I am an Aquarius also, thro and thro as someone said. Too bad others are unable to hear our drum! That said, I sure don't understand theirs.

Hi Shannon, Hope all is well with you! I'm gonna pop over and read your other thread in a seconnd - I just wanted to thank you for the thorough and well written insight into being a Taurean (sp?). I never really paid much attention to my sign, but I have to say, everything was smack on! SO COOL!!! I could go through every point, and relate it directly to my life, but I won't bore all you folks with that...I will, however, print it out to read to my dear hubby, especially that sexuality part...ie - I'm not 'boring' in bed, dear, I'm just pre-disposed to like good old fashioned passionate sex!! BTW - you are a knock out - you sure don't look like you have 3 kids (one 18!). I'm sorry to hear about your chronic pain - as a recovering pain pill abuser, I always knew the job would be twice as tough if I did actually need the pills. You seem to be so full of life - it's been a pleasure getting to know you so far, and I look forward to further posts! Take Care: SS
