Hello All, Today is my first day on a long journey to recovery. It is also my first day on this web site. I have read many of your posts and feel like I am ready to take these steps. I have been a drug addict for 15 years ( half my life ) and I am ready to take some of those years back. I have tried repeatedly to quit but have only relapsed over and over again. I think the longest I was ever clean was when I was pregnant with my children. I guess that was a strong enough reason to quit. I have many reasons to quit but I put them on the back burner hoping they will eventually get turned off. Today has been hard and I sure am going to work on not using. I go to meetings, have a sponsor etc... just can not seem to stay clean. Somehow I was able to quit drinking several years ago, so I know I have it in me to succeed at this venture. I really have to at this point. My children are getting to the age that they wonder what mom is taking. I find myself lying to them and that really bothers me. I know this will be a hard weekend---detoxing and such. I only know 2005 is my cleansing year and I am up for the task. Well Thank you for listening, and I look forward to getting to know you all. Happy New Year..... beezylou |

Welcome to SR. I can't think of any better time to start recovering than TODAY. Keep posting here, and hang in there with the detox bit. I kicked heroin cold turkey, and have stayed clean for 8 years. I am not sure what drug(s) you used, but you can do it if you stay strong.

Beezylou, Welcome to SR. It is a great way to start a new year. You have the most important reason to get clean and stay clean, your kids. They need a mom who is 100% there. Keep working at it. We have all had our relapses, but many, many of us suceed--One Day at a Time! I used pills, ( Vicodan, T-3's mostly) for over 10 years, and stopped many times before I really worked the program. I have been clean 6 years, 1 month and 28 days. Keep reading, keep posting, we are here. PM any of us if you need to talk more personally. :nyd :nya

Welcome Beezylou! May your decision bring you peace and happiness and freedom from the horrors of addiction as you find a new life for yourself and your family throughout the coming year. All things are possible when we refuse to put that first drug (or drink or harmful thought or behavior) into practice. You Are Worth It!! cj |
