I need help

I have been in recovery before, but right after I had my son, well a few months after, I started to drink again. I am now drinking every night. At least a 12 pack. It has consumed my life. I dont know what to do but I feel like AA didnt work for me and I am at a loss. It is only at night when i drink. I go all day saying not tonight, I am not going to drink tonight, but I end up drinking. I drink to forget, I drink out of stress, I will make a reason to drink. I just really need friends and guidance right now.

Here are a few things to think about. Did you have a Sponsor? Were you keeping in contact with that sponsor and were you working the steps? Did you attend meetings regularly? Were you willing to do whatever it took to stay sober? Did you admit that you were powerless over alcohol? If someone is not willing to do what is suggested of them and or to keep coming back our alcoholism runs rampent. Just think on that a little.

Maybe you just didn't work AA. Like ASL said, did you do the above things.

I came in and out of the rooms of NA for 3 years, relapsing, and said "oh this sh*t doesn't work". Well, it was me that wasn't working. Once I started doing what was suggested of me, I have stayed clean for 8+years. It is just a matter of being sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Hi Joanna,

I used to drink for any reason too, it didn't matter. I would make all kinds of promises and always failed. But, I did manage to stop and have had the best years of my life since then and you can do it too. AA works for many people, but there are other options such as smartrecovery.org. There are lots of inspiring people here at SR so hang around and get to know us.
