alcoholic mother is desperate - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information

My mother is an alcoholic and has been in and out of rehabs for the last decade, which has taken a toll on our family. For the first time though she is actually making the intiative to sober up. She went to detox, but cannot find a sober living home in our area. She wants to be close to home, as I just had a kid (her grandchild), and she wants to be close by to visit. Since we cannot find one at a reasonable price, it seems like she slipping back into the HOLE.

please help with any advise you can give.

Hello and welcome to SR. I don't know if recovery houses are listed, but you can try www.ncadd.org click on the picture of the state where you live, and it lists different resources available.

She may need to realize that she may need to be a little further away from the family for a short time, but the reward is staying sober and being IN the family's life for a long time.

My prayers go out to her. However if she is really ready nothing will let her fall. You let her know she has a choice now to drink or not to drink it's all up to her. Tell her not to feel sorry and to hang in there. I know it may sound like tough love but she is an adult and if she is truely tired of the alcoholic lifestyle nothing will stand in the way
