| Recovery and Employment
Hello ladies I'm sorry I haven't been around much my home PC has crapped out and I can only access a computer Mon-Fri at odd intervals. I was wondering if anyone has experienced possible discrimination at work because of addictions or mental illness. Let me share a bit: I have worked shift work for 15 years - two 12 hour days, then two 12 hour nights, then off for four days and the cycle continues. I'm burned out. I have a terrific employment record with regards to performance but previous to entering into recovery, I had a high rate of absenteeism. Twice, I took two months stress leave, the second time to enter rehab. My sick time was unusually high due to depression, and also from hangovers. Since my return to work in December of 2003, I have been working in the same capacity but on straight days, Mon-Fri 9-5 in order to assist my recovery. As you all know, regular sleep and a healthy diet are key. Also, with the number of meds I take before bed, workings shifts will (and has) upset the balance plus make me too tired at work when working all night. My requirements are being fulfilled in that I work a 40 hour week and my duties have not been restricted at all. I am in the process of getting in to see a psychiatrist who hopefully will back me medically with regards to getting a recommendation to continue on days indefinitely. Human Resources are starting to make some waves and are suggested I start looking into returning on shifts. I know that I can't say that I can't work shifts because I 'might' get depressed, but experience has shown that straight days help me feel so much better. Since my return to work I have only had 2 sick days, and 1 was when I stayed home with my sick daughter. Can anyone relate? Does anyone have some advice? They are going to start looking for answers from me soon and I have a tendency to let others push me around when it comes to defending myself. I'm really scared. I would really appreciate some insight. I've talked to my sponsor about it .. she is a good listener but can't really relate. Love Rowan |

I don't know if I can relate to what you are saying but I do agree with seeing a dr and talking about it. A drs recomendation could stop the change of hours. And while your at it, pray about it too
