| Recovered coke addict... now pregnant
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this... I was wondering if anyone would know the answer to this question, or has anyone been in a similar situation? I was addicted to cocaine, but I stopped using in April... then I got pregnant in May. I was wondering if this could affect the baby in any way? I never used any drugs during the pregnancy, but since there's only a month apart from the time I stopped using and the time I got pregnant, is there any possibilty of problems happening? |

I am not a dr. however if you stopped before the baby was growing inside you I would not worry about it at all. I have witnessed people use and have healthy babies and witnessed people not use and have sick. I would not worry about the cocaine you stopped the using before pregnacy so its likely your child will not be affected.

Sarah- My understanding is also that if you did not use from the moment the baby was started, you are OK. I would encourage you to do everything in your power to make sure you don't use throughout the whole pregnancy. Healthy thinking should be your motivation. But if that doesn't work, maybe fear would work....you just don't want them taking your baby after delivery if you test positive for cocaine use. To me, one of the most important things right now is to have your wonderful baby - this miracle- with you, and healthy. Also, it is very important to not use if you are nursing. If you aren't in a NA program, I strongly suggest you seek it out. It may provide you with the buffer zone between you (and the baby) - and the world of users out there, and that is a VERY good thing. May you be blessed and marvel at your baby - they truly are wonderful, -CSB

Hi Sarah, Congratulations on your pregnancy. I can understand your concern. God gave neonates a wonderful ability to recover from any temporary harm that may have been caused during pregnancy. It sounds like you used before conception, so I wouldn't dwell on it. Eat right and rest and I'm sure things will go well. If you have any concerns at all during your pregnancy, a doctor can run a test to check on the baby. Congratulations on giving up drugs. You have wonderful days to look forward to and don't need drugs anywhere in your life now. Sandy

Sarah- I think it is pretty normal to worry during pregnacy. Cocaine moves out of the body pretty fast. I have know several women who got clean right before they got pregnant that had prefectly fine babies!!! Don't let the worry enemy still your joy. I believe you will be fine. So glad you stopped before you concieved!!! Congrats to you. Babies are so cool((((huggy)))to you.

Congratulations! Pregnancy is such a wonderful time! I agree with everyone that you're probably fine and the baby wasn't harmed. I also agree with the suggestion to seek out NA or something else to help keep you away from using and people that use. Take your prenatals and see a doctor regularly! Keep us updated on the pg!
