Today's thought is: ... there are many sham diamonds in this life which pass for real and, vice versa, many real diamonds which go unvalued. --W. M. Thackeray It's high praise to say that someone is "genuine - the real thing." We use the image of jewelry when we talk about character: "Pure gold - 14 karat - rings true - a diamond of the first water - a pearl." The qualities of beauty and rarity make gems precious to us, and by using the same language to describe people, we imply that real personal worth is equally beautiful, and equally rare. Yet it's within everyone's grasp. We all agree on the valuable character traits: honesty, loyalty, openness, courage, humor, and the capacity for love. Everyone has them, and everyone can have them. Imitations won't do. I needn't worry about whether someone else's qualities are genuine. I know what I admire and I have plenty to do polishing my own.

I have found in this site generosity, caring and and understanding among all the rest. This reading brings memories of all I have gained and continue to gain from the program this site and the people I allow into my life. Staying away from those still active. Not because I am better then, simply because I don't want temptation I don't want to fall trapped in addiction again. Temptation that may bring me to lose all these new feelings and actions I get from others, trying to give away what I have learned recieved in recovery. When I used I was not honest, I did not care and the only loyalty I had was to my drug of choice.

thanks for posting this.....my fav part is i have plenty of polishing to do of my own..if i spend my time focusing on myself..i wont have time to take someone elses inventory today...i will carry this thought with me ..every where i go today!!!a promise of a new day!!! i really needed to read this today :smlove2:

Bublze - Thanks for that! The more you share...the more my heart fills with joy and even though I only have several days in recovery (and not years...yet)...I'm beginning to feel joy and happiness again. Lots of it is from reading and writing on this site!
